Choosing the Best Garage Door Openers

There are a variety of garage door openers and operators to choose from, so how do you know which ones are the best garage door openers for your needs?

For residential garage door openers, the main differences in the opener styles are how much space the opener takes up and how quietly it operates. The smaller and quieter the opener, the higher the cost. Sometimes loud operation is not desired, such as when the garage is located under a bedroom, particularly a child’s bedroom. In this case, we recommend a belt drive opener, such as the Liftmaster Model 3280. In some cases, the noise from a garage door opener is not a factor, such as with an unattached garage, and a basic opener will suffice, such as the Liftmaster Model 3265.

Some installations do not have space for a traditional overhead opener, where the ceiling height is too low. In this case, we recommend a jackshift garage door opener, such as the Liftmaster Model 3800, which mounts on the wall beside your garage door.

The horsepower of your garage door opener may be a factor if you have a particularly heavy garage door, such as a custom wood garage door. There are models available with 1/3, 1/2 and 3/4 horsepower, in most cases we would install a 1/2 horsepower model.

For budget-conscious customers, we also offer refurbished garage door openers.
